What sounded like a science fiction movie a few years ago seems to be within the realm of possibility with the sudden emergence of Elon Musk and his company SpaceX: private space travel.
Since intercontinental flights have become affordable and world travel is no longer a rarity, the exploration of continents has lost its fascination. The successful flights of SpaceX rockets gave rise to the longing to make the next unknown space – outer space – accessible to all.
The first hotel in space. The Voyager Station, is scheduled to open its doors as early as 2026. Orbital Assembly, the company behind the project, promises luxury over more than 11,600 m2 and with 1/6 of the Earth’s gravity. In addition to short- and long-term rental of the modules, Voyager Station also offers the opportunity to become one of the first people ever to purchase residential property in space.
Voyager Station will be the largest man-made structure in space. Its entire construction will take place entirely in orbit. In addition to the residential modules, the station will also include restaurants, event spaces, villas and research facilities. But even a short stay on the space station will put a heavy strain on the bank account. Orbital Assembly has not yet published any prices, but a trip to the space station should probably cost several million, according to current estimates.
Eight lucky people will get to enjoy a space flight earlier – albeit without a stay in a space station. Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa is planning the first civilian moon mission on a SpaceX rocket in 2023. The entrepreneur is inviting eight applicants to join him on the spectacular flight. The only application criteria: Pioneering spirit and willingness to help.
“I always wanted you to go – Into space man …
Pungent smells they consummate my home – Beyond the black horizon – Trying to take control – See my girl she shivers in her bones – The sun and zenith rising – Trying to take us all.”
Spaceman, Babylon Zoo (1996)
A lot more affordable than the trip itself is the right equipment. A must-have for all budding space tourists is the Omega Speedmaster Professional, the only watch qualified by NASA for space missions – and even worn by astronaut Buzz Aldrin on the moon during the 1969 moon landing. The Swiss watchmaker presented a revised version of the model with an improved movement at the beginning of the year. Visually, the watch is once again more closely aligned with the original design of the model.
“Space travel is life-enhancing, and anything that’s life-enhancing is worth doing. It makes you want to live forever.”
Ray Bradbury
The Fisher Space Pen is also part of NASA’s equipment. The space pen can also be used under unusual conditions – for example, underwater, at extreme temperatures or in space. The Fisher Space Pen is an indispensable companion for documenting your first space vacation. With its simple, timeless design, the pen is also suitable for taking notes in everyday life on earth. Perfect for anyone who likes to come up with adventurous space stories at their desk at home and want to put them down on paper.
Even though vacations in space are likely to remain a dream for most of us, it doesn’t hurt to be equipped just in case. Moreover, the Omega Speedmaster Professional and the Fisher Space Pen are proving to be useful and stylish everyday companions on Earth as well, captivating fans around the globe. And who knows, perhaps technological progress will enable more affordable space travel sooner than planned. All those who like to look up to the stars can hardly wait for this special day and are eagerly watching the events surrounding Musk and the space products that have virtually appeared out of nowhere.
